Common questions you'll want to know the answer to

1. Why should I wax?

Maybe you are a cyclist, sportsman, or a naturist? Or maybe you are just one of the many men who really like the aesthetic benefits, waxed skin looks smoother and cleaner, and certainly feels nicer. It also makes good hygiene easier

2. Will it hurt?

Ok, so probably yes, at least anything between a bit uncomfortable and a momentary sharp sting. But, once you've realised it hurts, it's over, and this is definitely something that gets less uncomfortable the more you do it. And the more you wax, the less you need to do it since the hair growth slows down.

3. Do I need to do any preparation before waxing?

No, just ensure the area to be waxed is clean and dry. Don't trim or shave - the hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip. If it's too long I will clipper to shorten to make it easier to wax.

4. What about after I've been waxed?

Different skins react differently to waxing. You can expect to be a bit red for a few hours and occasionally there might be blood spotting. It is important to keep the area clean, dry and cool, which means no hot showers, saunas, sunbeds, or hot tubs for 24hrs after, as these can irritate the skin and open the pores, allowing bacteria in. This also means you shouldn't wax right before flying off to somewhere hot. If you are waxing for a holiday, do it a week before you go. Occasionally, you might get spots come up in the days following a waxing. These should disappear within a few days. If not please contact your doctor. In most cases, within a day or two your skin will be calm and smooth. Use an exfoliator periodically to help avoid ingrowing hairs. Read the 'Waxing Care Guide' for important detailed information.

5. How long will it last?

This really varies between people. If you are new to waxing, aim to have 3 treatments 4 weeks apart - this will capture hair growth at the three main stages. From here, you can aim to wax every 5 to 6 weeks - some long term waxees can go up to 8 weeks between appointments.

6. Are there any circumstances where I shouldn't be waxed?

Yes, there are. If you have a contagious skin condition, including an STI, then you must wait for this to have cleared. Also, if your skin is red, sunburned, broken or damaged in any way this must have completely healed before waxing. Finally, some medications will make you unsuitable until at least three months have passed since finishing treatment, and these include steroids, Roaccutane and other Retin-A based treatments. If in doubt, ask before booking.

7. What if I get an erection?

You might do - though it usually disappears pretty quickly once the waxing starts. In any event, thats the benefit of being seen in private by a male therapist, you really don't need to worry.

8. What sort of massages do you offer?

I offer a one hour relaxing (otherwise known as Swedish) massage. This covers all of the body and is very relaxing - it's great if you just want an hour to doze and relax. I can also do a 30 minute massage, which focuses more on the back of the body (hamstrings, glutes and back/shoulders).

I also offer a one hour deep tissue full body massage. This uses firmer pressure and forearms/elbows to really stretch the muscles out and is good if you are feeling tight and stressed, though of course massages don't replace medical help.

All massages are done on the massage couch, using disposible covers for hygiene, and using unscented sunflower oil. You will typically be naked, though draped with towels as appropriate.

9. How Can I pay?

I accept cash or card/contactless payment. Transactions will appear as "SumUp/MOTMaleWaxing".

10. Is this a salon?

I operate out of a professional studio in Greenwich south London. It is private and discreet. I only ever see one client at a time with plenty of time in between to ensure you are the only person there.
